FIRENZE *florence*

Cecilia flew yesterday to Berlin, it was really cool to spend sometime with my sister travelling a bit of Europe. She really hated the fact that many italian guys wax their eye brows!! funny, i never noticed until she mentioned it. So I stayed the last night in Rome by myself, wento out and had fun.

Today, tuesday, I walked around the stuff that I was missing and took the 4:30pm train to Firenze. I went on the fast one so it took 1.5 hrs instead of 3.5. When i got here it was already dark, but I LIKE IT>>>>>>LIKE IT.....i want ot live here too, hahaha, i am going nuts now. So I checked in the hostel, a really nice one, and met my roomates, there is one woman travelling with her daughter they are from Cranberra, the other onw is brazilian, one scottish and another messy one who knows. then I was asking where to go for dinner, and a girl that is travelling by herself, from Mexico joined me. Her name is Fernanda and she is 19, really nice smart fiery girl. We had a rissoto dinner and on the way back to the hostel we got invited to a party. So we went to a really posch bar, full of italians with a funky dj, got a drink had a good time and escaped from the claws of the guy that invited us. It was tons of fun, then back to the hostel and meet more people and now it is this late and I am wide awake writing on my blog. At the rissotto restaurant we met a group of Mexicans from Leon that are here in their bi-annual trip to the shoe stores..they come to italy twice a year to meet with designers and look at what the trends are. So of course we talked to them. They told me about the Italian Institute of Shoe Design.....ahhhhhhhh!!! can you hear where this is going....it's close to Venezia so when I go there I will be checking it out shoes+design+italy rrrrrrrhhhhh!! hihihi
It is cold and it is raining!! so tomorrow will be wet day too much to see.

I will send photos as soon as i can, I'll see if I can get my CD in and bother Marcelita again.

This hostel has free internet all day/night so I guess I'll be posting more often. Until then, may god be with you. Love.

Hey Caro, somebody was trying to get me to have my eyebrows waxed when I was in San Diego -- and was pointing at an Italian waiter who had good eyebrows. It didn't convince me then... but then again, what do I know? Except to not take my fleece to Europe this summer...

Take pictures of those shoes! We want to see them! Ciao, marcos

Florence is fabulous. I lived on Gelato the whole time I was there. They make it the best. Gelato and shoes, what more could a girl ask for.

If you have a chance go to a typicall and very very cheap and good panino place. Its a small stand close to Piazza Republica and its calles Il Fratelini (or something like it). The pest authentic panino I had and the price was excellent.
ALso if you can go up hill to the Piazzale Michelangelo, the view is worth it!
Y ya espero las fotos pa que levanten tus platicas :)

CarolAina-chevallette -- Soy Erwin, out of the blue. Sorry I hadn't been in touch. I just finished a good 4 or so hours of catching up with your very enjoyable postings. It makes me very happy to learn how much you're going through. This is a true period of gestation of a new you. When you go back to Vancouver -- if at all -- you'll realize you're not altogether the same person anymore, and I think that's great! It's a new stage in your evolution as an individual. I've learned to think and realize that the world is much larger than what surrounds me, and I think you'll agree. What's great about Europe is how just a few miles or a few kilometers take you to entirely different geographies, climates, societies and cultures.
So, while you're still on Tuscan grounds: don't miss Sienna and San Gimignano, for a feel of the Middle Ages transitioning to the Renaissance. I'm sure that while in Florence you'll set time aside for the Uffizzi -- a must -- and all those places. As you walk around, think of a group of people questioning their status quo, the rule of the church and the feudal lords and realizing the enormous potential of developing the human being individually as part of a society and let it all bloom, and that might give you a hint of the beginning of the Renaissance. And if you saw the movie "Hannibal" you might remember how Ridley Scott enhanced some scenes from the novel using the remarkable setting of Firenze. San Gimignano has had its share of movies, too. The overbearing abbey where the film version of "The Name of the Rose" was filmed there, and lighter movies like "Where Angels Fear to Tread" and "Tea with Mussolini" also had scenes filmed there. I hope you'll make it to there. I'd also wish you set time aside to go to Milan. As a designer, it's a must, and shame on you if you don't have your picture taken anywhere on Via Montenapoleone. You must also set a morning aside to stand in queue outside Santa Maria delle Grazie to be admitted to see Leonardo's "Last Supper", a much-in-vogue revived icon thanks to that Da Vince code book.
I will certainly keep my eyes on your blog to learn whether you're planning to go to Spain by surface. If you do and decide to ride by the Mediterranean, plan on stopping either in Nice or Marseilles. And as you head for the Pyrennees, stop by at Carcasonne before heading for beautiful Catalonia. And when you're ready for Barcelona, please let me know, I'll give you tips of that wonderful city I miss so much.
Best wishes for you in 2006, too.
xoxoxo Erwin
P.S. My amorcito and I continue to celebrate with carrot cake our "Día de la Zanahoria" the 26th of every month!

Hi Caro,

It is nice to see that you are still having fun in the cold. I have finally got into an internet cafe in Boracay Island, Philippines. It is nice and hot here... about 30 or so degrees and the locals say it is too cool for them. We are at two opposite sides of the globe.... weird eh? The people here are so so nice. You would like it. It is hard to believe that your two month adventure vacation is coming to a close. I have been here for about a week and it feels like I have been here for three weeks… I like it!! Have fun!!
